Wine and Frost

This one started with a colour, not a flower. Burgundy against pale blue — I wanted to see how far I could push that pairing before it broke.

Everything in the bouquet was chosen to serve it. Peonies for the deepest reds. A dahlia to hold the pale centre. Hydrangeas for the drift between lilac and blue. Eucalyptus last, so it would read as a real bouquet and not an arrangement of colour swatches.

I don't paint flowers as they are. I paint them brighter, fuller, sharper than life — right up to the edge where saturated becomes toxic and stays luxurious instead.
